In January 2013 the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) found horse and pig DNA in a range of beef products on sale at several supermarkets including Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Iceland and Dunnes Stores. Evidence was taken on the contamination of beef products from the FSA, Tesco, Iceland, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food, David Heath MP and the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department of Health, Anna Soubry MP. Written evidence was also received from 14 organisations.
