The UK Soil and Herbage Survey (UKSHS) is a comprehensive survey of the concentrations of major contaminants in soils and herbage across the UK. It provides a reliable baseline against which intensive local surveys and future national surveys can be assessed. For some contaminants, the UKSHS provides us with the first comprehensive picture of their concentrations across the UK. This report describes the laboratory test methods used by the Environment Agency's National Laboratory Service (NLS) for the chemical analysis of samples utilised within the UKSHS.
