Production diseases are those disorders associated with the management and breeding of animals for intense agricultural production. They include not only metabolic and nutritional diseases, but also infectious and genetic disorders for which animals may be at increased risk due to modern agricultural practices. The occurrence of production diseases has relevance not only to production economics, but also to animal welfare, making the study of production disease of continuing importance in the advancement of animal agriculture. Evolving techniques of molecular genetics have helped advance the study of production disease and have lead to exciting advances in this pursuit |
